Top Trends in RV Safety

No matter who you travel with, where you go or why you do it, safety is always top of mind. RV makers know this and continue to build more and more safety-specific features into units. Some big, some small—they all make a difference. As we head into 2019, here are some of the RV safety trends we’re seeing on new RVs.

Advanced lighting systems

This is a big one right now. We’ve long had extra brake lights on many of our units, but our patent-pending JaySMART (Safety Markers and Reverse Travel) lighting system takes it to a whole other level. By adding several tow vehicle-controlled indicator lights to the exterior of towable units, other drivers and campground neighbors can more clearly see where you intend to maneuver.

Reverse travel assistance

More and more motorized and towable RVs are coming prepped for or equipped with backup cameras. They’re indispensable tools for safely getting in and out of campsites and parking spots. What’s more, JaySMART includes extra rear lighting for improved visibility when reversing.

Seatbelts in all seating positions

Part of the fun of traveling in a motorhome is hitting the road with a group of eager campers. To help ensure you get to and from your destination safely and comfortably, we add seatbelts to all seating positions in the living area.

Premium tires

Foreign-made tires, especially those from China, have a bad reputation in the RV world. We’ve made the decision to use only premium tires made in the U.S.A., from brands like Goodyear® and Michelin®, on nearly every single towable and motorized RV we make. Not only do they provide a better feel for the road, but they are more resistant to blowouts.

Ease of entry and exit

Main entry steps now offer lower clearance, sturdier steps and grab handles that are easier to reach. Not only does it make it easier for those with mobility issues to get in and out of units, but it will be easier, and safer, for the little ones—with their seemingly endless energy—to navigate as they race in and out.

Our team of engineers, along with our product experts, are always working to improve the safety of our RVs, because every owner of a Jayco RV is also a part of the Jayco family. It’s always been that way and always will be. Stay safe out there and, of course, have fun!
